Interview with my Grandmother

My grandmother, Bunsom Salee is 71 years old, born in 1938. She lived in Thailand on the outskirts of Bangkok. She discussed how her life was during World War II. Thailand was greatly affected by the war due to its close proximity to Vietnam.
Energy:

- There were no cars, and people usually walked or used oxen-pulled carriages
- Elephants were sometimes used to carry loads and for work
Water:
- Water was obtained from the nearby canals as well as rainwater
- Water from the canal was used to wash clothes and bathe in
Food:
- People bought their food from local markets
- Meats were usually bought fresh since there were no refrigerators
- Oxen-pulled plows were used for agriculture
Other resources:
- Houses were made from wood
- My grandmother said that American troops gave her notebooks and pencils for school
Comparison:
In the past, people used what they needed. Nowadays, we take consume more than what we actually need. Also, almost everything that was used was not chemically altered, so it had less of an impact on the environment. It makes life today seem more as an unnecessary luxury. We are greatly dependent on cars which release great quantities of carbon emissions. We should find more environmentally friendly ways to deal with the demands of the increasing population of the world.
