Interview with my grandmum

Teerapat_LP's picture

My grandmum is 75 years old. Her parents were famer and her family has lived in the remote area of Thailand. She was born during World War II and became an orphan after that occurrence. Thailand was considered as the undeveloped country at that time and was also affected by war.

Normally, people lived their lives simply and mostly depended on nature especially her, my grandmum, hometown which still relied on ancient wisdom.

For energy;

-          There was no automobile or any vehicles that employed petrol or gasoline. All they used for transporting was cart pulled by cows.

-          For farmers, they used buffaloes to plough and manpower to harvest.

-          There was no electricity, they used candle and lamp instead.

For resources;

-          People consumed water from river and also keep rainwater to drink. Obviously, they dug wells for public consumption too.

-          They used herbal medicine to cure any illnesses. So, they took a lot benefits from the forest and natural resources.

Comparison

-          In the past, the amount of facilities is relatively low when we compare with the present. Thus, people do not need to use much energy such as gasoline and electricity since they do not have car or electrical equipments.

-          At present, people normally relate and depend on the chemical products. Therefore, those released toxic has harmed the environment a lot.

-          Increasing Demand for comfort and easiness of human nowadays generate the higher need to use enormous natural resources such as petroleum, underground water and etc. which cause the unbalance to our world environment.
