Interview with my father

I wanted to know how his lifestyle was, so I asked him answer my question.

Although I could have interview with older person than him, I thought that his lifestyle is as interesting as their lifestyles.

In the 1970s, He lived in Hitachiomiya city that is located in Ibaraki prefecture. His house is the depth of the mountain. It takes 30 minutes to the foot from there by car. When he was high school student, he took two hours thirty minutes of his way to the high school!!

His lifestyle was different other’s lifestyle .For example, he had to heat a bath with the firewood cut from the mountain by their own hands because he couldn’t use gases.

His family also used “Irori” that is like a sunken fireplace. At the same time, it can be used as a heating system and cookware. Heating and cooking with Irori is known Japanese traditional style.

His family didn’t have a car, so to go to other places, they have to walk or ride the bike.

I told you about his way to the school. He went to the school by bike and train.

His life was hard to say convenience but very closed to nature.

He lived with goats and drunk their milk!! It may not be surprising in other countries. But in Japan, when I tell somebody to it, they often misunderstand it as grandparent’s episode.

I think his lifestyle is far away from ours; however we can learn something from it.
