Ekoinfonet system in Poland
Recently, in Poland system called Ekoinfonet has become public and we think that it is a very good example of our country energy policy. Today we would like to bring main ideas of this project closer to you.
Ekoinfonet is a special information system designed to gather data about entrepreneur’s impact on natural environment. It's going to be managed and supervised by Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection and its database will provide knowledge about companies' extent and way of usage of natural environment. Collected data will be relayed to various government institutions twice a year.
The system will consist of data about the amounts of CO2 being emitted to the atmosphere and wastes created by a particular company as well as transgenic movement of pollution. Ekoinfonet will also gather information about results of regular inspections. The project will be watched by Province Inspectorate of Environmental Protection.
Data will be processed by GIOŚ (Chief Inspectorates for Environmental Issues), WIOŚ (Province Inspectorates...) scientific-research institutes and other similar establishments. Final users of Ekoinfonet are going to be managements of provinces, public community administration, city administration, media, European Union and society in general.
Preparations will take place in stages. Databases are coming up this year, and National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management allocated 5 million of Polish zloty (approximately 1,5 million USD) to accomplish that goal. Next phase will be the construction of specialized network and purchase of computer hardware, which is going to cost around 6 million PLN (app. 1,8 million USD). In 2012, planned implementation of databases will take about 4 million PLN.
