TOSHIBA YOUTH CONFERENCE
FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE 2009
Objectives
For today’s youth, the standard bearers of the next generation, global environmental problems are closely connected to their own future.
This program will provide participants with the opportunity to think about, debate, and collaborate on the shared environmental challenges that all of us face, and to help them develop the ability to create a better future by working with one another.
It also aims to deepen intercultural understanding and explore ways to contribute to the global society by working together across the nations.
In addition, the program provides teachers who play a crucial role in mentoring the next generation with an opportunity to interact with and learn from one another. In this way, it aims to contribute to the improvement of science, environment, and intercultural education.
Theme
Exploring how to build a sustainable society by focusing on global environmental issues.
Target audience
Teacher-Student groups from selected schools
Students: Those interested in environmental issues and that are motivated to discuss as well as act to solve such issues with other students.
Teachers: Those passionate about environmental, scientific and intercultural education as well as an eagerness to take the experience back to their schools and localities to promote future educational activities.
Language
English will be the language of the conference. (Japanese-English interpreter may be provided for teachers’ program.
